Multimodal Safety and Security Programs Oversight Delivery Indicators, Transport Canada

Transport Canada's safety and security programs provide a broad range of activities. These include regulatory authorizations, such as the issuance of certificates and licenses to people, organizations or for equipment; compliance verifications through inspections and audits; and enforcement actions in response to non-compliance. They also include education and outreach activities targeting key stakeholders, such as regulatory bodies, as well as the general public.

New Motor Vehicle Registrations Data Visualization Tool

The Transportation Data and Information Hub now includes a New Motor Vehicle Registrations Data Visualization Tool. In response to the need for more information on the prevalence of electric vehicles in Canada, Statistics Canada has begun to release new motor vehicle registrations by type of fuel. The interactive dashboard provides access to current and historical data for motor vehicles in a dynamic and customizable format.

Dangerous goods incidents in Canada, 2018

There were 464 incidents involving dangerous goods—307 releases and 157 anticipated releases—that required a report to Transport Canada in 2018.

The information comes from the Dangerous Goods Accident Information System, which has been updated with 2018 data. The 13 tables show the annual number of dangerous goods incidents in Canada by province and territory as well as by mode of transportation, class of dangerous good, package type, initiating event and monthly distribution.

Canadian Economic Dashboard and COVID-19

On January 25, Canada confirmed its first case of COVID-19. Within two months, the COVID-19 pandemic had spread across the country, affecting the Canadian transportation industry, and many other parts of the economy. The Canadian Economic Dashboard and COVID-19 dashboard from Statistics Canada presents specific indicators to monitor the impact of the pandemic on Canada's economic activity.

Leading indicator of international arrivals to Canada

Starting with January 2021, Statistics Canada combined its leading indicators of non-resident visitors and Canadian residents returning from other countries by automobile and by air. Counts are based on two sources of administrative data from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), available within days after the reference month.

Vehicles, trucks and drivers entering or returning to Canada

Statistics Canada's Frontier Counts program counts entries into Canada by international travellers at ports of entry by mode of transport, country of residence, type and origin of traveller, and trip duration, as well as counts of automobiles, trucks and other land vehicles entering Canada. This program has been modified with coverage increasing from a subset of 111 ports using an electronic system called the Integrated Primary Inspection Line (IPIL) to all land ports equipped with the IPIL system.
