Weekly Service and Performance Reporting – Supplementary Information

Introduction

Class 1 rail carriers who submit service and performance information are also required to report supplementary information regarding the calculation of service and performance indicators. The following information has been submitted by these rail carriers. Transport Canada is not responsible for the contents of this document.

Canadian National

The following is a list of events that are used in the calculations of indicators set out in sections 15 to 18, 20, 21, 23, 25, and 26 of Schedule XII of the Transportation Information Regulations.

The daily snapshot time for all indicators that use a daily snapshot is 0400 Eastern time. For the number of employees measurement, the weekly snapshot is taken on Mondays at 0400 Eastern time.

The following is a list of events that are used in the calculations of indicators set out in sections 15 to 18, 20, 21, 23, 25, and 26 of Schedule XII of the Transportation Information Regulations.

·       The transit times for both railcars and containers are calculated from the last Departure Event at a terminal, to the first Arrival Event at the next terminal.

·       Destination dwell for carloads is calculated from the time of the Arrival Event at the station until the Actual Placement event at that station.

·       Destination dwell for containers is calculated from the time of the Arrival Event at the station until the Out-Gate event at that station.

·       Origin dwell for carloads is calculated from the time of the Release Event (either loaded or empty) at a station until the Departure Event from that station.

·       Origin dwell for containers is calculated from the time of the Empty Available event or In-Gate event until the Departure Event from that station.
