Outil de visualisation des données sur les immatriculations de véhicules neufs

The Transportation Data and Information Hub now includes a New Motor Vehicle Registrations Data Visualization Tool. In response to the need for more information on the prevalence of electric vehicles in Canada, Statistics Canada has begun to release new motor vehicle registrations by type of fuel. The interactive dashboard provides access to current and historical data for motor vehicles in a dynamic and customizable format. It allows the user to compare and analyze new vehicle registration data from 2011 to 2018 by fuel type (gasoline, diesel and electric), geography (selected provinces) and vehicle type (passenger cars, pick-up trucks, vans and multipurpose vehicles).

In 2018, the total number of new motor vehicles registrations in Canada was over 1.97 million with almost 93% of them gasoline fueled. While battery, hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric fueled vehicles collectively accounted for about 3.5% of new registrations the same year, this was more than double the 1.4% of new registrations four years earlier in 2014. Indeed, over this period there were roughly eight times more battery and plug-in electric new registrations. These new vehicle registrations have been concentrated in three provinces that had or currently have rebate programs – Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia – accounting for about 97% of all such vehicle registrations.
