Key Transportation Indicators

​The Key Transportation Indicators dashboard, provided by Transport Canada, offers an interactive visualization of Canada's transportation data across various modes, including air, marine, rail, and road, as well as trade information. Users can explore metrics such as passenger traffic, vehicle movements, top commodities, and import/export values.

About the Key Transportation Indicators Dashboard

This dashboard gives the public access to various transportation statistics relating to Airports, Marine ports and selected land crossings.  

The tabs, navigable at the top of the dashboard, contain the following information: 

Air (Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg) 

  • Monthly / Yearly enplaned / deplaned passengers 

  • Enplaned /Deplaned Passengers by Region 

  • Monthly / yearly movements. 

Road (Vehicle and Passenger information at the following land crossings: Abbotsford / Huntingdon, Boundary Bay, Cornwall, Coutts, Emerson, Fort Erie, Niagara, Lacolle, North Portal, Pacific Highway / Douglas, Sarnia, Sault Ste. Marie, St. Stephen, Thousand Islands, Windsor) 

  • Monthly / Yearly vehicle movements by type and nationality 

  • Import and Export value of goods crossing at the border. 

  • Monthly / Yearly passenger counts at the crossing by length of stay and nationality. 

Marine (Prince Rupert, Montreal, Halifax and Vancouver Ports) 

  • Monthly / Yearly commodity value imported and exported by port, top commodities and top countries. 

  • Monthly Import and Export number of containers. 

Trade (all Countries) 

  • Monthly / Yearly value of imported and exported goods by country, region and commodity.

Notes: 

  • ... Indicates data is not available 

  • .. Indicates data is not allowed to be shown at this level of aggregation 

  • Air Passenger data is based on enplaned / deplaned data at location 

  • Air Movements include all traffic (including non-commercial) 

  • Top 5 exports table are shown where the trade commodity value exceeds $10,000 

  • The data sets included in this dashboard have different release dates which affect the latest date available on the dashboard. 

Limitations: 

  • Air Passenger and Movement data are preliminary and subject to revision.

Glossary:  

  • Enplaned / Deplaned Passengers – the number of passengers arriving and departing at an airport 

  • Aircraft Itinerant Movements – refers to a flight operation in which an aircraft takes off from one airport and lands at another, or departs from and returns to the same airport but leaves the local air traffic area. As opposed to local movements. 

  • Vehicles – Vehicles at the border crossing can include Automobiles, Trucks, Motorcycles and other types 

  • Commodity – Commercially transported item
